I look back very fondly on my first years in Alewijnse, as I was able to team up with knowledgeable, skillful people on diverse projects, ranging from the DOT segment to leisure or defense segments.

I started back in 2013, as an electrical engineer for the Sapura Pipelayer projects. My journey in the company began as a quest for new challenges, professional growth, as well as learning different skills. The beginning was all about developing the technical knowledge that was needed for the shipbuilding industry, after having worked in the automotive for several years. I look back very fondly on my first years in Alewijnse, as I was able to team up with knowledgeable, skillfull people on diverse projects, ranging from the DOT segment to leisure or defense segments. I profusely think the involvement of my experienced colleagues and their support shaped me into the professional I am today.

This is, in fact, a way of working spread throughout all of Alewijnse, be it in the installing teams, or in the engineering offices, or in the support departments.

I am currently shadowing Alex Antohi, offering my support on the OPV projects and making the effort to acquire as much expertise as possible, for the new role ahead, which I do not take lightly.

In parallel, I am completing my tasks on the DVM 1014 project, for engineering, as well as for commissioning support.’

A typical work day

‘I usually make a plan at the beginning of each week, based on the project planning, deciding what needs to be promptly addressed.

The typical work day naturally starts with a cup of coffee, checking my email box and catching up with my team mates, discussing how they have planned their day.’

An exciting and challenging role ahead

‘Looking forward to the upcoming period, I expect a steep learning curve, during which I will be grasping technical notions such as project risk management, resource management or cost estimations. I am also very aware that, apart from these skills, a good project manager needs to engage in effective, open communication, foster a good team morale, and a positive work environment and also be as adaptive as possible. This new role aligns with the long-term goals that I have set for myself and I feel confident because I am surrounded by talented, supportive people.

Also, there’s no one-size-fits-all. I will trust my instincts, stay open-minded, keep learning and permanently seek mentorship.’
